Job Purpose
The Revenue & Pricing Analyst is responsible for maximizing passenger revenue by continuously monitoring competitor pricing, passenger demand, booking trends, seat availability, and route performance. The incumbent will ensure the company's fares remain competitive while achieving optimal profitability through strategic pricing, capacity management, and demand forecasting.
The role requires constant monitoring of market conditions and proactive recommendations to increase revenue, improve load factors, and ensure sufficient seating capacity during periods of high demand.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Management
- Maximise revenue across all routes and services.
- Monitor daily sales performance against budget and historical trends.
- Analyse booking patterns and identify opportunities to improve revenue.
- Recommend fare adjustments based on market demand.
- Ensure pricing strategies align with company revenue objectives.
Competitor Pricing Analysis
- Monitor competitor fares throughout the day across all major routes.
- Compare company pricing against competitors for every departure.
- Identify fare increases or decreases implemented by competitors.
- Recommend immediate fare adjustments where appropriate.
- Ensure the company remains competitively priced while protecting profitability.
- Produce competitor pricing comparison reports.
Pricing Management
- Review pricing multiple times daily.
- Adjust fares according to:
- Demand
- Seasonality
- Public holidays
- School holidays
- Major events
- Competitor activity
- Historical sales trends
- Remaining seat availability
- Ensure pricing changes are implemented accurately within the reservation system.
- Verify all fare updates after implementation.
Demand Monitoring
Continuously monitor booking activity by:
- Route
- Departure time
- Day of travel
- Passenger loads
- Booking lead times
Identify:
- Fast-selling departures
- Slow-selling departures
- High-demand travel periods
- Low-demand periods
Forecast future demand based on historical trends.
Capacity Management
Monitor seat availability across all services.
Identify departures approaching capacity.
Recommend operational actions such as:
- Adding additional buses.
- Upgrading to larger-capacity vehicles.
- Adding extra departures.
- Reallocating vehicles between routes.
- Opening reserve vehicles during peak periods.
Ensure sufficient seating is available during:
- Easter
- Christmas
- School holidays
- Public holidays
- Month-end periods
- Major sporting and cultural events
High-Demand Sales Management
Where bookings exceed normal expectations:
- Immediately notify Operations Management.
- Prepare a demand analysis.
- Recommend one or more of the following:
- Additional vehicles.
- Additional departures.
- Dynamic fare increases where appropriate.
- Promotional pricing on alternative departures to spread demand.
- Continue monitoring until demand normalises.
Low-Demand Management
Identify underperforming departures.
Recommend strategies such as:
- Promotional fares.
- Discount campaigns.
- Group travel offers.
- Corporate discounts.
- Marketing initiatives.
- Service consolidation where operationally necessary.
Monitoring Frequency
The Revenue & Pricing Analyst is expected to monitor pricing and bookings at regular intervals throughout the working day.
As a minimum:
- Early morning review.
- Mid-morning review.
- Midday review.
- Afternoon review.
- Late afternoon review.
- Additional reviews during peak booking periods.
Monitoring should increase during:
- Holiday seasons.
- Peak travel periods.
- Major events.
- Competitor promotions.
- Unexpected demand spikes.
Reporting
Prepare daily reports including:
- Competitor pricing comparisons.
- Revenue performance.
- Load factors.
- Seat availability.
- Routes nearing capacity.
- Routes with low occupancy.
- Recommended pricing changes.
- Additional vehicle requirements.
- Revenue opportunities.
- Risks affecting passenger numbers.
Weekly and monthly reports should include:
- Revenue trends.
- Booking trends.
- Competitor analysis.
- Pricing effectiveness.
- Route profitability.
- Recommendations for future pricing strategies.
Data Analysis
Analyse:
- Historical passenger volumes.
- Occupancy percentages.
- Average fares.
- Revenue per departure.
- Revenue per route.
- Booking lead times.
- Cancellation trends.
- Seasonal travel patterns.
Use findings to improve future pricing decisions.
Communication
Work closely with:
- Operations Department.
- Reservations Department.
- Marketing Department.
- Branch Managers.
- Fleet Controllers.
- Senior Management.
Ensure operational decisions are supported by accurate commercial information.
Compliance
- Maintain confidentiality of pricing strategies.
- Ensure all pricing changes are authorised.
- Maintain accurate records of fare amendments.
- Follow company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Diploma or Degree in:

Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in:
- Revenue Management.

- Experience analysing sales and revenue data.
