About the position
My client in Centurion is recruiting for a Senior Retail Specialist who will be involved in customer service, sales, pricing and merchandising duties. The Senior Retail Specialist supports the daily operations and performance of a large, high-volume used car store that sells a wide range of pre-owned vehicles across all major brands. This role focuses on driving sales, maintaining high standards of customer service, and supporting the sales team through coaching, coordination, and leadership on the showroom floor. The ideal candidate does not have to come out of the automotive industry, but must thrive in a dynamic, customer-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Store Performance
- Monitor sales metrics, customer engagement, and team performance on a daily basis.
- Work closely with the Store Manager to implement strategies that drive traffic, conversions, and upsells (e.g. warranties, financing).
- Ensure inventory is well-presented, properly priced, and aligned with market demand.
Customer Experience Leadership
- Act as a senior point of contact on the showroom floor to support the sales team during busy periods and complex transactions.
- Ensure a consistent, transparent, and professional experience for all customers throughout their buying journey.
- Handle escalated issues or objections promptly and constructively.
Team Support & Training
- Mentor and coach sales team members to improve product knowledge, selling skills, and customer service.
- Provide support during onboarding of new hires to ensure smooth integration into the team.
- Help maintain a positive, performance-driven culture on the sales floor.
Inventory Presentation & Store Standards
- Oversee the display and merchandising of vehicles across the showroom and outdoor lot.
- Ensure vehicles are clean, well-labelled, and displayed to maximize appeal and accessibility.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors for photography, cleaning, and any cosmetic touch-ups as needed.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in a large retail sales environment, not necessarily automotive.
- Proven ability to coach and lead sales staff in a fast-paced retail setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of used car inventory trends, pricing strategies, and buyer behaviour.
