About the position
Our client, an established Stellenbosch-based Resort and Hotel, is looking to employ a Retail and Merchandising Manager. The Retail & Merchandising Manager will establish retail as a separate business unit, focusing on all retail outlets on the premises. This position requires a dynamic individual capable of overseeing merchandising, product development, and staff product training to optimize customer experience and drive sales growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Continually source and work with suppliers to develop new product ranges for the retail outlets in accordance with the year planner.
- Work within the company’s defined process and sustainability goals.
- Oversee stock replenishment and maintain accurate stock records.
- Oversee repeat purchases and manage phase-out product lines.
- Work with E-commerce and the Destination Marketing & NPD Manager to maintain and manage our online lifestyle product range as a complimentary outlet.
- Curate gifts for corporate clients, including packing and shipping coordination.
- Provide continual training to operational teams to ensure deep and thorough knowledge of products to encourage customer engagement and storytelling.
- Develop a comprehensive product catalogue, including product pictures, labelling, pricing, and descriptions.
- Collaborate with the Destination Marketing and NPD Manager to create a retail and merchandising year planner that aligns with brand objectives and considers tactical and brand events.
- Work with suppliers and oversee visual merchandising for the retail outlets across the Riverbank, following the year plan.
- Work closely with the Brand Manager to ensure a consistent look and feel across outlets in accordance with the seasonal rhythm of the farm.
- Work with Destination Marketing and NPD Manager to monitor project costs, ensuring financial resources are allocated efficiently and targets are met.
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualities:
- Minimum five years’ experience in a retail buying and merchandising role, preferably in lifestyle homeware, or hospitality retail in the premium sector.
- Proven track record in product development, range planning, and supplier management.
- Experience in visual merchandising, particularly in high-end or boutique retail environments.
- Experience working with a sustainability-focus is a strong advantage.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to analyse sales data and make strategic buying decisions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with suppliers, team members, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in POS software and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel and Teams). Experience in MICROS (POS Software) is advantageous.
- Passionate about sustainability, craftsmanship, and supporting local makers.
- Possess own reliable transport.
