About the position
Our client in the civil engineering and infrastructure sector is looking for a skilled and experienced Resident Engineer (LIC - Bridge Works) based at Eastern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the construction of a Labour-Intensive Construction (LIC) bridge project, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, quality standards, safety regulations, and project timelines. This role requires strong site management expertise, effective stakeholder coordination, and a proactive approach to reporting, problem-solving, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Engineer's Representative on an LIC bridge project and administer the contract (e.g., GCC).
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise construction activities to achieve scope, programme, quality, safety, and environmental targets.
- Maintain accurate records, measurements, and documentation to support payment certification and reporting.
- Review method statements, programmes, and HSE documentation.
- Engage with the Employer, Contractor, and community structures in line with LIC principles.
- Facilitate monthly reports and coordinate with all site engineers, staff, and related resources.
- Supervise daily works, quality control, and quantity verification.
- Resolve issues and coordinate effectively with stakeholders.
- Mentor and guide junior personnel, ensuring knowledge transfer and compliance with standards.
Requirements
- B Eng, BSc Eng, or BTech (Civil) from a recognized South African institution.
- Professional registration as Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng with ECSA.
- Minimum 8 years post-graduate site experience.
- Labour-Intensive Construction unit standard at NQF Level 7 (SAQA-accredited).
- Successfully executed at least two bridge construction projects in a lead/site representative capacity.
- Full-time availability for the duration of the contract.
- Valid South African ID, driver's license, and own reliable transport.
