About the position
Our client in the consulting engineering environment is seeking a Resident Engineer to lead the delivery of civil infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will oversee project execution, contract administration, and construction monitoring, while mentor technical teams and ensuring high-quality standards across multiple project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure on-site project implementation adheres to approved designs, quality, time, and cost requirements.
- Act as the primary liaison between the Client, Contractors, and Office Personnel to resolve on-site issues.
- Develop and implement effective communication plans with project stakeholders.
- Manage project documentation, including correspondence, minutes of meetings, and site file maintenance.
- Review contractor claims, provide technical advice, and make recommendations to Clients.
- Influence contractors to meet project goals regarding cost, schedule, and quality outcomes.
- Coordinate, coach, mentor, and supervise junior site staff.
- Facilitate effective team and client meetings, maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
- Oversee and coordinate quality assurance processes.
- Ensure compliance with legal, health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Manage procurement processes in line with supply chain management policies, including supervision of service providers, sub-consultants, and specialists.
- Prepare cost estimates and compile tender documentation for civil engineering projects.
- Evaluate and certify Interim Payment Certificates.
- Assess and adjudicate contractor claims for extensions of time.
Requirements
- BSc, BEng, or BTech in Civil Engineering.
- Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng / Pr Techni Eng) is an advantage.
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in site supervision and project engineering within civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of specifications and bill of quantities (COLTO/COTO, SANS 1200, project-specific) and conditions of contract (SAICE GCC, FIDIC, NEC).
- Proficiency in project management software (MS Project or similar) and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work across multiple projects in different provinces.
