Background:

- The SAMRC/WITS Centre for Health Economics and Decision Science PRICELESS SA is a research unit within the University of the Witwatersrand School of Public Health, Johannesburg
- It aims to enable smart decision-making in health through evidence-based research focusing on policy and public engagement
- PRICELESS SA’s core business is to provide evidence to improve resource allocation and priority setting
- PRICELESS has a focus on obesity prevention, the prevention of NCD’s and the commercial determinants of health and policies that promote health
Main purpose of the job:
- To coordinate research projects by planning, liaising, overseeing and reporting on research projects
Location:
- Wits School of Public Health, 27 St. Andrews Road, Parktown, Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
- Plan the research process and timelines
- Coordinate meetings and steercoms of the research team
- Compile reports for steering committee meetings and funders
- Coordinate/manage other strategic projects as required
- Other tasks as required by the line manager
- Assist with data collection
- Assist with data analysis
- Assist in setting up meetings
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations
- Assist in writing for popular press
- Assist in writing academic articles
- Maintain a record-keeping system that is logical, methodical and easy to access
- Report on progress to the steering committee and director
- Assist in identifying content for web page
- Upload newly published papers and reports to web page
Required minimum education and training:
- Honours Degree in Public Health or allied discipline
Required minimum work experience:
- 3 years’ experience in a research environment, public health or similar field
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Knowledge of commercial determinants of health would be advantageous
- Experience working on multi-country projects
- Strong interpersonal skills, a high level of diplomacy and emotional intelligence
- Personal integrity and a high level of professionalism
- Able to exercise discretion, high levels of initiative and independent decision-making
- Excellent MS Office skills
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and managers
- Strong organisational skills
