Main purpose of the job:
- We are looking for an experienced Research Assistant to support clinical trials on a women's health research team at the Clinical Health Research Unit, a division of Wits Health Consortium
- The successful candidate will assist with participant recruitment, informed consent, screening, enrolment and retention; maintain accurate source documentation and regulatory records; and capture study data in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the approved protocol
Location:
- Helen Joseph Hospital, Westdene - JHB
Key performance areas:
- Assist the Study Coordinator and Investigators with the planning, set-up, and day-to-day running of the clinical trial in accordance with the approved protocol, GCP and SOPs
- Recruit Participants, assist with screening and enrolment, and support retention through follow-up, reminder calls and tracing of Participants lost to follow-up
- Administer informed consents and ensure consent is correctly documented
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of study visits, and liaise with Clinic, Pharmacy, and Laboratory staff to ensure visits run smoothly
- Maintain accurate, complete, and contemporaneous source documents, case report forms (CRFs), study logs, participant reimbursement records and trackers
- Capture study data into the electronic data capture (EDC) system, resolve data queries, and support quality control of study records
- Support readiness for monitoring visits, audits, and ethics/regulatory reporting
- Assist Investigators with preparing study-related reports, presentations and educational materials, and share findings with community Stakeholders, as requested
Required minimum education and training:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Health-related field (or similar)
- Valid Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification and training in the protection of human subjects
Required minimum work experience:
- At least two (2) years of prior work experience in research or public health
- Spoken and written fluency in English and IsiZulu or Sesotho
- Excellent computer literacy, writing, and presentation skills
- Organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills needed to conduct research projects
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data capturing
- Self-motivation, a can-do attitude, and ability to work independently
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities
- Experience in cancer, sexual and reproductive health, and/or HIV programs or research
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Honors Degree or Post-graduate Diploma in a Health-related field (or similar)
- Prior experience in clinical trials
- Prior experience in participant recruitment and retention
- Willingness to work overtime/weekends
