About the position
Background:
- Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences
- WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives
- In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to Academics
Division: Wits Planetary Health Research
Main purpose of the job:
- To provide research support to the Wits PHR operations and technical team
Location:
- Wits School of Public Health, Parktown
Key performance areas:
- Coordinate and schedule relevant appointments, meetings and events, including reimbursements
- Take minutes at relevant meetings, including capturing discussion and action points, format and disseminate within two working days
- Coordinate project procurement needs, including purchasing office consumables and office equipment within budgetary and procedural guidelines
- Assist in preparing reports and presentations
- Contribute to research projects in accordance with skill set
- Doing submissions for journal articles and conference presentations
- Locate and upload PDFs of journal articles using the Wits library access
Required minimum education and training:
- Bachelor of Science or Project Management qualification
Required minimum work experience:
- Minimum of 2 years working in research environment
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Must be self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Should be able to work under pressure and meet set deadlines
- Certification in Business Management and/or Project Management would be advantageous
- Proven track record in organizing meetings and events
- Experienced minute-taker and able to draft action-oriented summary reports from high-level meetings
- Experience working in research, donor funded organisations or NGOs
- Exceptional organisational and administrative skills
- High levels of initiative and independent decision-making
- Must be assertive, confident and adaptable
- Data science experience would be advantageous
