About the position
Role Summary
This role is responsible for managing and maintaining the General Ledger and ensuring accurate records to the point of providing the trial balance for reporting purposes. This includes tasks related to financial reporting, analysis, and compliance i.e performing critical reconciliation and ensuring reoccurring and adjustment journals. The role manages the month end close process according to the month end calendar.

Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics or Accounting
National Diploma or Certificate in Finance, Accounting, or Bookkeeping,
Bcom Degree is advantageous
Previous experience in general accounting or a related finance role
Strong computer literacy with advanced Excel proficiency
Demonstrated numerical aptitude and problem-solving ability
SAP experience is essential

Reporting
Ensure contractual and operational costs are accurately reflected in management accounts and aligned with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Process and manage the allocation of expenses to the appropriate business units, profit centres, and general ledger accounts.
Monitor and report on allocation completeness, timeliness, cycles, exceptions, and changes impacting management accounts.
Ensure accruals are complete, accurate, and recorded in the correct reporting period.
Confirm that expenses are correctly captured in management accounts, profit centres, and general ledger structures.
Prepare standard and ad hoc management reports to support business requirements and strategic focus areas.
Provide exception reporting to the business for postings or allocation changes that impact management accounts.
Compliance
Ensure income and expense line items are recorded in accordance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies.
Manage purchase orders, ensuring timely creation and accurate coding to the correct general ledger and profit centres.
Ensure costs are recognised in the appropriate general ledger and reporting period.
Prepare and process journals, including complex and intercompany entries related to expenses and accruals.
Process accrual reversals to ensure obsolete accruals are cleared and valid accruals remain open.
Communication
Monitor and manage open purchase orders to ensure liabilities for services rendered and goods received are accurately recorded.
Investigate and resolve queries arising from incorrect reporting, purchase order creation, or invoice postings.
Provide insightful commentary on expense variances against budget, prior month, and prior-year performance.
Review accrual movements and provide commentary to ensure completeness and accuracy of liabilities.
Collaborate with asset and store managers to ensure expense line items are accurately reflected in Profit & Loss statements.
