Remuneration Manager (Head of Department – Payroll)Hire Resolve is seeking an experienced, strategic Remuneration Manager (Head of Department – Payroll) to oversee group-wide payroll operations at our client's Head Office in Sandton. Reporting directly to the Personnel Services Executive, this senior managerial role leads the remuneration department, taking end-to-end ownership of PaySpace operations, payroll system implementations and interfaces, statutory tax management, budget preparation, and workflow policy design.
Key Performance Areas:
- Departmental Leadership & Payroll Strategy: Lead, direct, and mentor the remuneration team while setting payroll strategy, risk mitigation plans, and operational controls.
- Systems & Interface Management: Oversee PaySpace payroll processing and Time & Attendance (T&A) interfaces. Drive process automation, system audits, custom report writing, and parameter-level rule management.
- Financial & Budgeting Control: Compile, manage, and monitor departmental payroll budgets against actuals. Perform complex general ledger journals, provisions, and accounting reconciliations.
- Statutory Compliance & Taxes: Execute accurate payroll tax calculations, applications for tax directives, and statutory compliance (EMP201/EMP501, COIDA, UIF, etc.) across diverse conditions of employment.
- Policy & Workflow Development: Formulate, update, and implement internal remuneration policies, procedures, and administrative workflows (e.g., medical aid processes, garnishee orders, leave provisions, and benefit structures).
- Reporting & Auditing: Generate complex custom reports on PaySpace, prepare end-of-month and end-of-year tax/financial reporting, and ensure strict compliance with internal and external audits.
Minimum Requirements:- Education: Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Payroll Management, Finance, or Accounting.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years total payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a senior managerial payroll role and 3 years in a payroll system implementation/interface role. Proven experience managing large-scale payrolls (weekly and monthly) exceeding 1,000 employees.
- System Expertise: Hands-on experience with PaySpace at parameter level (including report writing and system setup).
- Technical & Software Skills: Advanced MS Excel and MS Word (advanced level mandatory). Exceptional accounting and complex reconciliation capabilities.
- Legislative Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of Wage Determination 452, BCEA, LRA, COIDA, OSHA, POPIA, Income Tax Act, and Bargaining Council agreements.
- Licence: Valid Driver’s Licence (Code 08 / EB).

- Team Structure: Total size of the payroll department managed, reporting structures, and the exact number and titles of direct reports managed.
- Job Grading: Candidate's current and previous official job grading as a Manager.
Position Details & Process:- Location: Sandton (Head Office / Onsite).
