Registered Psychiatric Nurse

About the position

We are seeking a dedicated and professional Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in psychiatric/mental and addiction nursing and additional clinical exposure, preferably within the private healthcare sector. The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care while maintaining professional and ethical nursing standards
Minimum Requirements:

• Must be a Qualified Psychiatric Nurse (Registered with SANC)
• Proven experience in psychiatric/mental and addiction health nursing
• Private healthcare sector experience will be advantageous
• Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities:

Administrative Responsibilities

• Ensuring that the Policy and Procedure file is kept intact and well maintained

Meeting Meetings:

• To attend meetings as delegated by the unit manager, in her absence or as part of the nursing team
• Encouraged to make suggestions and offer contributions in regard to improving nursing care

Organisation:

• Plan systematically, be able to adapt as circumstances change and be able to successfully carry a greater workload
• To delegate duties in accordance to the knowledge, skills and attitudes of colleagues and subordinates, thus maximizing the utilisation of manpower and improving productivity

Control:

• Ordering of medication for patients done according to policy
• Ensure safe keeping of medicinesPrevent stock shortages through planned ordering
• Ensure that equipment is used correctly
• Ensure Maintenance of equipmentReport maintenance issues

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Doing the psychiatric nursing evaluation and comprehensively completing the documentation
• Provision of a therapeutic environment
• Forming therapeutic nurse/patient relationships
• Doing crisis intervention
• Counselling patients
• Giving psychiatric nursing care
• Giving pre and post care to the patient receiving ECT
• Administering and evaluating the effects of medication
