Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Provide holistic, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill and high-dependency patients.
- Continuously assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Monitor and interpret vital signs and advanced monitoring equipment (e.g., ventilators, cardiac monitors).
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and blood products according to prescribed protocols.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, including cardiac arrest and deterioration in patient condition.
Clinical Skills & Procedures
- Operate and manage ICU-specific equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, and dialysis machines.
- Assist with invasive procedures (e.g., intubation, central line insertion).
- Ensure infection prevention and control practices are strictly followed.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely patient records.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including doctors, physiotherapists, and dieticians.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing support, education, and updates.
- Participate in ward rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making processes.
Quality & Compliance
- Adhere to Mediclinic policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Professional Development
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of critical care nursing practices.
- Participate in in-service training, workshops, and continuous professional development (CPD).
- Mentor and support junior staff and student nurses where required.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Diploma/Degree in General Nursing
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse
Experience
- Proven experience in ICU and/or High Care nursing environment
- Competence in managing critically ill patients
- Experience in private hospital setting (advantageous)
