Refrigeration Assistant

About the position

Our client is looking for a refrigeration Assistant with the ability to work in cold environments. Willingness to work shifts, weekends and after hours. Work under supervision and independently.
Location :Cape Town

Requirements:

• 2–3 years of relevant experience in industrial or commercial refrigeration systems.
•  Valid Category A driver’s license.

Technical Knowledge:

• Basic understanding of ammonia.
• Ability to use refrigeration tools and diagnostic equipment.

Education/Certification:

• Trade certification or diploma in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (or equivalent) 
• Valid Safe Handling of Refrigerants Certificate is an advantage.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to work in cold environments (below 0°C).
• Physically fit and able to lift heavy equipment.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or after-hours in case of breakdowns.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the maintenance, inspection, and repair of refrigeration and cooling systems used in cold storage.
• Monitor and log system performance, including temperature, pressure, and refrigerant levels.
• Diagnose faults and carry out minor to moderate repairs under supervision or independently.
• Ensure all refrigeration equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
• Support senior technicians in preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing.
• Comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.
• Maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Respond to refrigeration emergencies and breakdowns promptly.
• Carry out general duties in and around the cold storage facility as needed.
