Our client, a leading player in the power generation sector, is seeking a skilled Technical Buyer / Quantity Surveyor to join their dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will coordinate all procurement, costing, and estimation activities across the organisation, ensuring the efficient, timely, and cost-effective acquisition of goods, services, and project materials essential to high-performance operations. The role is based in Vereeniging. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting project delivery and driving operational excellence.
- Interpreting of technical drawings and specifications.
- Preparing cost estimates and bill of quantities (BOQs).
- Tracking expenditures and ensuring that all procurement aligns with client and project requirements.
- Developing procurement plans and enforcing compliance with internal policies and legal requirements.
- Driving continuous improvement across procurement and cost estimation functions.
- Balancing quality, cost-efficiency, and risk mitigation (very critical).
- Ensuring supplier performance and contract integrity.
- Ensuring the procurement function is responsive, strategic, and capable of supporting evolving business needs (in close collaboration with cross-functional departments).
- Interpret engineering drawings, data sheets, and the scope of work to determine material and component requirements.
- Source, evaluate, and qualify suppliers based on technical capability, quality standards, and delivery performance.
- Support project cost estimation, forecasting, and cost variance analysis.
- Assist in compiling cost reports for client invoicing and project close-out.
- Support the integration of AI-assisted procurement automation (where applicable).
Requirements:
- National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field
- ERP or project management system experience (Sage, SAP, [URL Removed] and/or MS Projects preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Minimum 5 years' experience in technical procurement within fabrication, power generation, or heavy engineering
- Must possess a strong understanding of mechanical components, fabrication drawings, and materials
- Experience in cost estimation and budget control, power station, and in fabrication or machining, and knowledge of QA/QC documentation requirements will be beneficial
- Must be able to foster a culture of accountability, ethical sourcing, and data-driven decision-making
- Must have a Valid South African ID, a Passport, and a Driver's Licence
- Must be willing to travel locally
