Our client, a leading food manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead and continuously improve the Food Safety and Quality Management System (FSQMS). The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with food safety legislation, customer specifications, FSSC 22000 standards, and company quality policies while fostering a strong food safety culture throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities
Food Safety & Quality Management
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the Food Safety Management System (FSQMS).
- Ensure compliance with FSSC 22000, HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000, food safety legislation, and customer requirements.
- Maintain and update food safety policies, procedures, work instructions, and prerequisite programmes (PRPs).
- Lead Food Safety Team meetings and Management Review meetings.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen food safety and quality performance.
- Ensure all non-conformances are investigated, with corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) effectively implemented.
Quality Assurance
- Develop and maintain quality standards across the manufacturing process.
- Ensure all finished products comply with customer specifications and legal requirements.
- Monitor manufacturing processes to ensure consistent product quality.
- Promote a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
Audits & Compliance
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct internal quality audits.
- Lead customer, certification, surveillance, and external audits.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with food safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare for and manage FSSC 22000 certification audits.
Customer Complaints & Continuous Improvement
- Investigate customer complaints and quality concerns.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor complaint trends and identify improvement opportunities.
- Prepare professional responses to customer quality-related queries where required.
Research & Development
- Collaborate with Production and Operations on new product development and product improvements.
- Participate in product trials and process validation activities.
- Review and approve product specifications, recipes, and manufacturing instructions.
- Evaluate new raw materials, ingredients, and packaging for food safety and quality compliance.
- Conduct shelf-life studies and product evaluations.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Quality Management, Microbiology, or a related field.
- HACCP Certification.
- FSSC 22000 Internal Auditor qualification.
- Lead Auditor qualification will be advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years' experience within a food manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Quality Management role.
- Experience working within an FSSC 22000-certified manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience leading quality teams.
- Experience coordinating customer, certification, and regulatory audits.
