About the position
Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Controller to join our Pulley Manufacturing Plant. A Quality Control (QC) Officer in manufacturing, ensures products meet established quality standards throughout the production process. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and verifying the quality of materials, processes, and finished products to ensure they meet company and industry standards. You will work closely with production, engineering, and quality assurance teams to maintain consistent product quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitoring Production:
- Regularly inspecting manufacturing processes and equipment to ensure they operate correctly and meet standards.
- Product Inspection:
- Examining raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods for defects using various testing methods and tools.
- Conduct routine sampling and testing procedures according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Defect Identification:
- Identifying and documenting any quality issues or non-conformities.
- Collaborate with production teams to improve product quality and reduce waste/rework.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Recording inspection results, writing detailed reports, and communicating findings to relevant personnel.
- Identify and report non-conformities; assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain and update quality control documentation including inspection records, deviation reports, and corrective action plans.
- Support audits (internal and external) and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
- Quality Standards Adherence:
- Ensuring products comply with company standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
- Process Improvement:
- Contributing to the development and implementation of quality control procedures and suggesting improvements to enhance product quality.
- Preventative Measures:
- Working to prevent defects from occurring by identifying potential issues early in the production process.
- Ensure all safety, health, and environmental procedures are followed during quality checks.
- Organizational Skills:
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of Quality Standards:
- Understanding of relevant quality standards ISO 9001, regulations, and best practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- National Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Quality Management, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in quality control/management in a manufacturing
- environment (preferably stainless steel or metal fabrication)
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 implementation and auditing practices
- Solid understanding of welding and fabrication processes
- Familiarity with the properties of steel
- Knowledge of South African Occupational Health & Safety regulations and digital H&S systems
- Strong computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, basic reporting).
- High attention to detail and data accuracy
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments.
- Experience with physical stock handling and familiarity with warehouse processes.
