About the position

Main Purpose:

  • Oversee activities related to food safety in operations.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Report on non-conformities relating to quality and food safety.
  • Assist Continual Improvement Officer and Food Safety Coordinator with Food Safety tasks.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily process checks, verify allergen programme is complied with, bring deviations to manager attention, raise job card and/or NCRs.
  • Contribute with investigation and close out of customer complaints, and work with the operations team to determine the root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in traceability exercises as conducted by the food safety team and close out non-conformances raised against your department during the exercise.
  • Conduct daily process auditing and report on non-conformances.
  • Ensure that INCR is sent to the relevant department, work with the operations team to determine the root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Follow-up on implementation of corrective action related to raised non-conformances.
  • Conduct daily CCP and OPRP checks and report on non-conformances.
  • Conduct daily pest inspections, including incoming and stored raw materials.
  • Support QA function with inspection and sampling of expired raw materials as required.
  • Support Food Safety Coordinator and Continual Improvement Officer with internal food safety training and inductions.
  • Collect and verify food Safety records and processing documents.
  • You may be required to participate in projects assigned to the department.
  • Daily surveillance to ensure raw materials used in production are safe, and that the quality and safety of final products made meet the desired specifications.
  • Take proactive steps to avoid loss to the business, report problems promptly to managers.
  • Conduct on the spot training to personnel who do not follow food safety procedures, document results.

Experience & Qualifications :

  • Tertiary qualification: National Diploma and B.Tech Food Technology / BSc Microbiology/B.Tech Quality
  • Experience in the Food Manufacturing and Testing Environment.
  • Basic knowledge of Food Safety Management Systems (preferably BRC and FSSC)
