About the position

Description/Synopsis:

Our client, a leader in the heavy engineering and materials handling industry, is seeking a Proposals Engineer to join their expanding team. This role is an integral addition to support their continued growth and expansion across the African market.

 

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, conscientious individual with excellent communication skills and a solid understanding of heavy engineering principles, equipment interactions, materials handling, and project scheduling.

Minimum Requirements:

• Prefferable- Degree in a relevant technical field (BSc, BEng, or BTech )
• Proven technical sales experience within a Mining, heavy engineering or industrial environment.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite and MS Projects.
• Skilled in 2D & 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, DraftSight, AutoCAD).
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans (additional languages advantageous).
• Valid Driver’s License, Passport, and Yellow Fever Certificate (up to date).

Main Responsibilities:

• Generate concepts, size solutions, and prepare cost estimates for new and existing clients.
• Select equipment, design processes, and evaluate technical solutions.
• Draft project schedules and detailed Scope of Work documents.
• Perform design calculations to assess equipment suitability.
• Prepare professional tenders, proposals, and quotations.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
• Develop and maintain strong business relationships with clients and partners.
• Organise and conduct sales and site visits.
• Present proposals and technical solutions to prospective clients.
• Provide pre- and post-sales technical support.
• Negotiate contracts, terms, and commercial conditions.
• Contribute to the development of budgets, forecasts, and sales analyses.
• Liaise with engineering staff and suppliers to ensure accuracy in planning, scheduling, and costing.
• Deliver product education and technical advice to clients.
• Attend trade exhibitions, conferences, and industry meetings.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to prepare drawings, sketches, and technical documentation for proposals.
• Facilitate project handovers between the Business Development and Engineering teams.
• Travel within Africa as required.
