About the position
Background:
- The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is a renowned African-led research institute that seeks solutions to Africa’s health challenges
- It is located within the University of the Witwatersrand and addresses some of the greatest public health concerns affecting our region, including HIV and its related problems, sexual and reproductive health, and vaccinology
Main purpose of the job:
- Support clinical trials in all phases including start-up, implementation and close-out
- Lead the project coordination for recruitment, retention, data quality and operations
Location:
- Wits RHI - 22 Esselen Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
- Support clinical trials in all phases including start -up, implementation and close-out
- Lead the project coordination for recruitment, retention, data quality and operations
- Develop/Review work plan and other strategic project documents for the effective implementation of the project
- Work with colleagues to enhance project goals and outputs
- Identify the needs (inputs + outputs) of the relevant project
- Coordinate with external agencies such as public health and NGO partners, regulatory bodies, donor monitoring and auditing agencies and others as necessary
- Develop and manage participant/beneficiary recruitment and retention strategies
- Support the development of data management/monitoring and evaluation plans
- Develop and maintain project information systems
- Develop project tools such as SOP’s, informed consents, participant/beneficiary information materials, technical guidelines, best practice documents and other documents as required
- Coordinate and troubleshoot operational activities such as laboratory activities, pharmacy, IT, procurement etc.
- Conduct training on project processes and activities
- Manage staff to ensure optimal staff utilisation and maintenance of sound labour relations
- Effective self-management
Required minimum education and training:
- Master’s Degree in relevant health related field
- Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Additional qualifications and/or experience will be an advantage
Required minimum work experience:
- At least 4-6 years of experience in clinical trials, of which at 2 years of experience as a study coordinator
- Experience with HIV/STI clinical trials
- Experience with DAIDS/Network studies
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
- Good quality assurance experience
- Ordered, systematic and analytical in approach to research
- Organized with a thorough and accurate approach to work
- Good communication and detail orientated
- Attention to detail
