About the position
Our client, an innovative company operating within the waste-to-energy sector, developing infrastructure that converts non-recyclable plastic waste into clean, low-sulphur fuels is seeking to hire a Project Lead to join their team based in Century City, Cape Town.
This is an owner's side role where the Project Lead will take ownership of the successful delivery of their flagship plant from development and construction through to commissioning and handover.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related built-environment discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading the delivery of industrial, energy, process, manufacturing or infrastructure projects.
- Experience working on the owner's side of projects will be advantageous.
- Proven experience managing EPC/ EPCM contractors and multidisciplinary engineering consultants and technical stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of the South African permitting and regulatory environment, including environmental, land use and construction approvals, will be highly advantageous.
- Comfortable operating across commercial, technical and regulatory environments.
- Experience within oil sales, distillation processes and/or plastic purchasing would be advantageous.
Main duties will include, but are not limited to:
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the central point of accountability across all technical project stakeholders.
- Manage the performance of the appointed EPC/EPCM contractor, ensuring delivery against scope, budget, quality and programme.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary external consultants including civil, structural, mechanical, fire engineers, architects, environmental specialists and town planners.
- Manage interfaces with technology and equipment suppliers.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with regulatory authorities, municipalities and industrial zone stakeholders.
Permitting & Regulatory
- Manage the full permitting process including:
- Environmental Authorisations
- Air Emission Licences
- Waste Management Licences
- Rezoning applications
- Building Plan Approvals
- Fuel Manufacturing Licences
- Monitor and track application progress, key milestones and dependencies.
- Proactively identify and mitigate regulatory risks that could impact project delivery.
Site Development & Construction
- Lead site development activities from earthworks through civil construction and plant installation.
- Manage tendering and contractor appointment processes for civil and construction packages.
- Drive value engineering and cost management initiatives while maintaining safety, quality and compliance standards.
- Monitor construction progress through commissioning readiness and final handover.
Technical Leadership
- Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary technical stakeholders.
- Oversee the management of technical documentation and engineering decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure the facility is designed, constructed and commissioned to achieve operational and compliance objectives.
Programme & Project Delivery
- Own and manage the master scheduled, critical path, budget and project risk register.
- Provide regular progress updates, risks and decisions to senior leadership.
- Keep the whole programme moving toward commercial operation.
