About the position
A leading South African coal and resource group is seeking a Project Engineer – Mechanical to manage and direct the full lifecycle of medium to large-scale projects from initiation through to ramp-up. This includes design, execution, legal compliance, and performance management aligned to engineering and safety standards.

Requirements:
- National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Essential)
- Project Management Certificate (Essential)
- Management Development Programme (Essential)
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC): Engineering (Advantageous)
- 6–8 years’ project engineering experience in mining, heavy industry, or production
- Experience managing full project lifecycle: from scoping to commissioning
- Familiar with EPCM, SHEQ standards, legal frameworks (MHSA), and compliance reviews
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee engineering project execution, contract management, and risk mitigation
- Ensure SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality) compliance across all phases
- Coordinate cross-functional teams and external contractors
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders to meet project objectives
- Monitor budgets, timelines, and performance KPIs
- Implement project assurance, governance, and quality frameworks
- Conduct post-project evaluations and identify process improvements
