About the position
Project engineering is not desk work in disguise. See your decisions through from drawings to commissioning. Is this you? Practical engineering judgement matters to you as much as sound theory. You are technically curious, organised and comfortable moving between detailed problems and the wider project picture. You take ownership, communicate clearly across disciplines and know when to draw on more experienced colleagues. What you'll be doing (and why you'll enjoy it) Turning drawings and schematics into workable equipment will sit at the heart of your day. You will support planning, system design, component specification and integration, then coordinate with procurement, suppliers, contractors and workshop teams through fabrication, assembly, installation, testing and commissioning. Along the way, you will track timelines, budgets, quality and documentation while troubleshooting practical mechanical and hydraulic issues. Where you'll be doing it Within an international engineering organisation, the Cape Town engineering team delivers specialised equipment projects for mining, marine and offshore environments. The work brings designers, project managers, suppliers and manufacturing teams together, giving practical engineering a visible place in how equipment is built, tested and commissioned. What you'll need A BTech, BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline provides the foundation, ideally backed by four to seven years in mechanical, project or equipment engineering. Practical industrial hydraulics experience is essential, alongside confidence reading drawings, schematics and specifications. You should also understand manufacturing and assembly, have project coordination exposure, and be comfortable with Microsoft Office and CAD software. What you'll get The real value is breadth. You will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers across mechanical systems, hydraulics and end-to-end project delivery, building practical expertise across multiple project stages. As your experience grows, there is scope to take on greater responsibility within technically varied work.
