We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Project Development Specialist to join a high-performing team driving the development and delivery of catalytic infrastructure projects across South Africa and the broader Southern African region.

This is a strategic role for a professional who thrives at the intersection of infrastructure, finance, and stakeholder engagement - someone who can transform early-stage concepts into structured, bankable projects that deliver meaningful socio-economic impact.

The Opportunity

As Project Development Specialist, you will play a central role in originating, structuring, and advancing infrastructure initiatives across sectors including education, healthcare, and municipal services.

You will:

  • Lead client engagements with municipalities, provincial authorities, and state-owned entities
  • Translate early-stage concepts into viable, investment-ready projects
  • Structure projects to meet funding, regulatory, and implementation requirements
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary internal and external teams to drive project preparation
  • Support financial modelling, feasibility processes, and funding strategies
  • Identify new opportunities and proactively shape solutions to unlock project viability
  • Provide strategic input to ensure projects are sustainable, impactful, and commercially sound

This role requires both strategic oversight and hands-on coordination to move complex initiatives through development stages toward financial close.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a seasoned infrastructure professional with strong commercial insight and stakeholder management capability.

Experience Required:

  • 8-10 years' experience in project development, infrastructure advisory, project finance, business development, or related roles
  • Background in Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), infrastructure advisory firms, commercial banks, or similar environments is advantageous
  • Demonstrated experience in infrastructure project preparation and structuring

Key Competencies:

  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management capability
  • Ability to engage on technical matters without being a technical specialist
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple workstreams and professional teams
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen
  • Self-driven, resilient, and able to operate independently

Travel Requirement:
Approximately 90% travel within South Africa, engaging directly with public sector stakeholders and project partners.
