ROLE PROFILE / LOCATION: A Permanent Specialist Level Role in the Architectural Sector based in Johannesburg (Gauteng)
REMUNERATION DATA: R50, 000.00 - R65, 000.00 (Total Monthly Cost to Company)
JOB SUMMARY: My Client is in search of a driven and design-led Project Architect with a passion for hospitality environments? They seek a highly capable professional to take full ownership of projects from concept through to completion while leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering exceptional design quality. This is a senior leadership role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys client engagement, and is confident managing complex architectural projects independently.
As a Project Architect, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of architectural projects, acting as the primary project lead. The successful incumbent will take ownership of design direction, client relationships, team coordination, and project execution across all work stages. They will operate with a high level of autonomy, making key design and project decisions while collaborating closely with the Project Director on strategic and financial matters. Key Responsibilities will include: -
Project & Financial Leadership
- Take full accountability for project budgets, cost estimates, and financial performance
- Lead value engineering initiatives while maintaining design integrity
- Manage project scope, timelines, and programme delivery
- Monitor and mitigate financial risks proactively
- Review and approve invoices, consultant fees, and vendor costs
Design & Project Delivery
- Lead projects through all stages (Stages 1-7), including:
o Concept development and narratives
o Schematic and design development
o Construction documentation and detailing
o Site coordination and project close-out
- Oversee production of high-quality drawings and documentation
- Ensure compliance with design standards, regulations, and company protocols
- Coordinate consultants, contractors, and specialist vendors
- Maintain full ownership of project progress, quality, and outcomes
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams across architecture and interior design
- Allocate resources efficiently and ensure optimal team performance
- Drive a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary client contact, building strong, long-term relationships
- Chair client, consultant, and site meetings with authority
- Manage expectations and ensure consistent communication
- Oversee external consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors
Quality Control & Coordination
- Lead quality assurance across design, documentation, and construction stages
- Review and approve drawings, materials, and shop drawings
- Manage RFIs, site instructions, and technical coordination
- Ensure alignment between architecture, interiors, and FF&E requirements
Strategic Contribution & Growth
- Contribute to design narratives, PR content, and thought leadership
- Research global trends in architecture and hospitality design
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and business development

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF Level 4)
- Master's Degree in Architecture (MArch) or Master's in Architectural Technology (MTech)
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience
- Proven experience as a Project Lead / Project Architect
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit, BIM workflows, and Adobe Suite
- Mandatory site experience
- Proven experience in Architectural Work Stages 3-6 (essential)
- Hospitality project experience (advantageous)
- Demonstrated passion for hospitality design and project leadership
- South African citizen or valid work eligibility
- Valid passport
