Programme Manager – Strategic Financial Systems Transformation

About the position

A prestigious national institution is undertaking a large-scale modernisation initiative to strengthen and future-proof South Africa’s financial systems. To drive this transformation, we are seeking an accomplished Programme Manager to lead complex, multi-stream projects that will shape the next generation of financial infrastructure.

 

About the Role

In this pivotal role, you will lead a high-impact transformation programme involving multiple stakeholders across financial and regulatory environments. You will ensure that strategic initiatives are prioritised, executed, and delivered with excellence — on time, within scope, and aligned to long-term institutional objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of large transformation programmes, ensuring strategic alignment and value realisation.
  
  
• Oversee multiple project teams, providing leadership, governance, and technical direction.
  
  
• Manage executive-level stakeholder engagement across internal and external partners.
  
  
• Drive programme governance, risk management, and performance reporting.
  
  
• Ensure compliance with procurement, financial management, and quality standards.
  
  
• Mentor and guide project managers and administrators within the portfolio.
  
  

 

Qualifications and Experience

• Honour’s Degree in Programme/Project Management, Computer Science, IT, or equivalent (NQF 8).
  
  
• Minimum 8 years’ relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  
  
• Proven track record in large-scale transformation or modernisation initiatives.
  
  
• PMP or equivalent certification advantageous.
  
  
• Strong exposure to financial systems, payment environments, or regulatory projects.
  
  
• Proficiency in Microsoft Project and Jira.
  
  
• Sound knowledge of SDLC and Agile delivery methodologies.
