About the position
The National Research Foundation (NRF) is a statutory body mandated to contribute to national development by sup-porting and promoting research and human capacity development through funding and provision of the necessary re-search infrastructure, in order to facilitate the creation of knowledge, innovation and development in all ï¬elds of science and technology, including humanities, social sciences and indigenous knowledge. The mandate of the NRF extends to developing, supporting and maintaining national research facilities; supporting and promoting public awareness of, and engagement with, science; and promoting the development and maintenance of the national science system and sup-porting Government priorities The Reviews and Evaluations (RE) Directorate is the custodian and driver for reviews and/or evaluations of: research and scholarship applications; researchers; funding instruments; and research divisions and institutions. The NRF seeks to appoint a Professional Officer within the Reviews and Evaluations directorate. Key Responsibilities:• Assist in the identification, development, adaptation and implementation of business processes, documents and systems. • Assist in the on-going maintenance, improvement and management of business processes and systems. • Plan, organise and coordinate review panel meetings. • Identify and invite reviewers and panellists for RE reviews. • Assist in the validation of outcomes of the technical screening of applications for reviews. • Provide accurate and timely information and data for periodic reports. • Compile recommendations from the Review Panel members. • Follow-up on recommendations of the Review Panel members. • Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. • Report on RE activities and outcomes. Key Requirements:• A 4-year degree (or equivalent) in the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences or humanities. A Master’s degree will be an added advantage. • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in research administration or research management. • Experience in peer review and process management. • Project management. • Computer literacy, including MS Office Suite. • Strong business and professional writing and oral communication skills in English. • Good interpersonal and client relations management skills. • A results-oriented, logical and systematic approach to planning, organising and delivering. • An understanding of the South African Higher Education landscape.
