About the position
Well-established company based in Cape Town is seeking a Production Manager to join their team!
Experience Required / Requirements:
- 8–10 years in CNC/manual machining environments with close tolerance machining.
- 3–5 years in a management or supervisory role.
- National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering, or trade-tested artisan (Fitter & Turner, Toolmaker) with management experience.
- Strong knowledge of CNC, milling, turning, and grinding processes; tooling, tolerances, and materials.
- CNC programming and troubleshooting skills (FANUC, Siemens, Mitsubishi).
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Planning & Control: Oversee daily machining operations, ensure optimal machine utilization, monitor workflow, and maintain work instructions and SOPs.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor supervisors, setters, and operators; oversee shift schedules; provide training, evaluations, and skills development.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure machining meets specifications and tolerances, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with Quality department.
- Maintenance Coordination: Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance, drive machine uptime and OEE, recommend equipment upgrades.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Ensure OHSA compliance, conduct risk assessments, promote safety culture, and comply with environmental regulations.
- Cost & Efficiency Control: Monitor production costs, control consumables and raw materials, track WIP accuracy, and implement lean initiatives.
- Reporting & Communication: Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports, participate in management meetings, and communicate goals and feedback across teams.
