Production Manager – (Pome & Stone fruits)
Ceres, Western Cape
Our client is offering an exciting opportunity for a Production Manager – Fruit (Pome Fruit – Apples and pears & Stone Fruit to join their farming operations in the Ceres area of the Western Cape.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management and execution of fruit production activities, ensuring efficient operations, high-quality standards, and optimum productivity. This role reports directly to the Mentor/Head of Fruit Production.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and manage all fruit production activities.
- Monitor crop health and implement effective pest and disease control programmes.
- Manage irrigation and fertilisation programmes.
- Supervise, train and lead a team of 4–6 permanent employees, as well as seasonal labour during pruning, thinning and harvesting.
- Implement and maintain GlobalG.A.P., Nature's Choice and SIZA standards.
- Conduct daily and weekly planning to achieve production targets.
- Allocate tasks, monitor productivity and ensure quality standards are met.
- Manage employee performance, discipline and attendance.
- Maintain accurate production records, labour administration and budgeting support.
- Perform general farm administration and reporting.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Physiology or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in commercial fruit production.
- Sound knowledge of orchard management.
- Working knowledge of GlobalG.A.P. and associated certification programmes.
- Strong leadership, planning and communication skills.
- Good administrative and computer literacy skills.
- Ability to work independently, motivate teams and drive productivity.
- High level of discipline, attention to detail and professionalism.
