About the position

Vacancy: Production Manager


  • POSITION SUMMARY

The Process Lead’s primary role is to ensure effective engineering planning with the focus on asset care, support and influence the production scheduling process in collaboration with the Process Team Leaders and drive continuous improvement plans and process. This includes the continuous improvement of efficiency, performance, utilization of plant, equipment, labour, knowledge, planning, inventory, production processes and tasks by drawing on knowledge resources within the business and the use of lean manufacturing principles and OMS to continually improve the value stream and its components. Those tasks include but are not limited to activities such as setting and planning good operating standards for execution, leading long interval controls, coordination, setting and implementation of learning and development programs and strategies to enhance both individual and business unit performance. The Process Lead will provide support to the Operations Manager to identify, develop and implement improvements within the Business unit.

  • Key Responsibilities

 

  • Leadership and Accountability
  • To provide visible leadership and coordination of people development in relationship to operational, technical and equipment knowledge, in conjunction with the training department.
  • Support the Operations Manager in the achievement of operational KPI’s.
  • Drive and Live the OMS planning principles for developing, documenting, planning and continuously improving good operating standards and practices.
  • Leads the long interval controls, 2x2 projects and assists production teams and Process Technicians in troubleshooting in the event of a problem.
  • Oversight of the Printing & Gifting unit and working to maintain optimization of the continuous manufacturing process,
  • Cost
  • To develop, implement and drive the Continuous Improvement Program, primarily focused around: 4M’s - machines, materials, methods, and manpower.
  • Analysis & reporting on the consumption of materials and utilities.
  • Develop and lead VIP cost improvements.
  • Training and development
  • Develop and set standards for consistent operations across all shifts and ensure that through coaching and influencing, performance of shift production team is being managed to achieve this.
  • Development and implementation of action plans together with the production teams to address any deviation from standard as identified through OMS.
  • SHERQ
  • Co-ordinate the quality improvement program together with shift production teams, SHERQ and other technical resources (internal and external).
  • Plan, co-ordinate and execute machine tests and trials together with shift production teams and other technical resources (both internal and external). Completion of documentation to show and ensure compliance with both internal and external regulations and protocols.
  • Monitoring of equipment – including regular testing and ensuring maintenance tasks are carried out.
  • Perform risk assessments of the equipment and processes being used. This refers to staff safety and safety within the plant and can also extend outwards to include things such as the environmental impact.
  • Asset management
  • Analyse and interpret process data to advise the Operations Manager on potential operational and quality risks as well as opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide process know–how during the development of projects, machine rebuilds, new product development.

  • Job Specification


Educational Qualification:


  • Preferably, BTech in Pulp and Paper Technology, BTech / BSC. In Industrial Engineering.
  • Knowledge and Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience within an FMCG environment.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Skilled in using the MS Office package.
  • Advance Excel skills
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 6-Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • In depth knowledge, understanding and experience of FMCG or manufacturing plant, and able to translate this into practical applications to improve business unit performance.
  • Analytical skills – responsible for analysis and interpretation of data into charts, diagrams, and reports
  • Sound understanding of SHERQ legislation and standards.
  • The ability to develop and implement processes and procedures which simplify and enhance the operation.
  • Proficient problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Sound decision-making skills.
  • High level of computer literacy and systems understanding.
  • Project management – have to ability to manage people, budgets and complex projects and bring them to completion on time and on budget.

  • The Process Lead is expected to function in both the plant and office-based environments and easily transition between the two.
