About the position
Job Purpose:
To lead and manage the production team to ensure quality parts are produced on time, in full and within budget, while maintaining a safe working environment and meeting customer expectations.
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 12 with 5+ years’ production experience in the Metal, Automotive or similar manufacturing industry (preferably OEM), including 3 years in a Production Management role within a unionised environment managing a large workforce. Welding department experience. Engineering Degree or Diploma in Production Management (NQF 6/7).
Key Responsibilities
Production Management
- Manage production operations to meet KPIs, quality and delivery targets.
- Implement and maintain departmental policies, procedures and risk controls.
- Monitor performance and implement improvements where required.
People Management
- Lead and support Group Leaders and production teams.
- Promote good employee relations and ensure adequate staffing levels.
Training & Development
- Mentor and develop Group Leaders and retain critical skills.
- Assist with recruitment of supervisors and technical specialists.
Problem Solving
- Resolve production and customer issues using structured problem-solving methods (PDCA, DMAIC, 8D, A3).
Reporting & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company standards, safety and quality requirements.
- Manage departmental budgets and report to Executive Management
