About the position
A well-known and established flexible packaging manufacturing company providing flexible packaging for the food and beverage industry requires the above to manage and oversee the planning, organising, and controlling of all activities within the extrusion, printing, lamination, slitting, and conversion production departments.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- A Grade 12 with a degree or diploma in Packaging or Mechanical Engineering or Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Operations Management or related is required for the role.
- Previous experience having worked within a Production Management role within the Flexible Packaging and/or Extrusion / Lamination / Flexo Graphic Industries is preferred.
- Must have strong interpersonal, leadership and management skills.
- Must be able to manage multiple production processes simultaneously, and to utilise resources effectively and efficiently in a deadline-oriented environment.
- Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Computer literate and proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and related software programs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing and overseeing the planning, organising, and controlling of all activities within the extrusion, printing, lamination, slitting and conversion production departments.
- Leading, encouraging and motivating personnel within the sphere of responsibility.
- Developing and implementing a Production strategy to drive down costs and improve overall efficiencies in line with World Class Manufacturing (WCM) practices as well as applying Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Taking ownership and the management of the continuous improvement of the Production departments as well as improving the overall efficiency of the Production departments.
- Ensuring that an effective maintenance plan is adhered to and continuously improved.
- Successfully motivating teams and implementing projects within budget.
- Reconciling production material usage and accounting for waste, while implementing proactive measures to reduce waste generated within the Production departments.
- Ensuring responsibility for safety requirements within the ISO 9001 and BRC systems.
- Reducing customer complaints resulting from production inefficiencies.
- Ensuring effective production planning and scheduling.
- Complying with Safety, Health, Environment and Risk standards.
