Product Development Technologist

About the position

Hire Resolve's client, a leading manufacturer and supplier of food flavouring and seasoning solutions, is currently seeking a Product Development Technologist to join their product development team in Midrand.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and refining flavour and seasoning solutions, translating customer briefs into technical formulations, and supporting the commercialisation of innovative food products.

Responsibilities

• Develop new and innovative food flavours, seasonings and flavour systems from concept through to commercialisation.
• Formulate and optimise flavour profiles according to customer briefs and product requirements.
• Build flavour profiles from scratch, with a focus on either sweet or savoury applications.
• Conduct product trials, sensory evaluations and formulation adjustments.
• Troubleshoot formulation, sensory and product-development challenges.
• Translate customer requirements and briefs into practical technical solutions.
• Work closely with internal teams, customers and other stakeholders during the product development process.
• Maintain accurate formulation, trial and product-development documentation.
• Ensure products and formulations align with applicable food and flavour regulatory requirements.
• Support the continuous improvement and optimisation of existing flavour and seasoning products.
• Use structured and methodical problem-solving techniques to resolve product-development challenges.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Food Technology, Food Science or a related field.
• 2–5 years' experience in flavour or seasoning product development – essential.
• Proven track record in developing flavours – non-negotiable.
• Previous experience within a flavour house, seasoning manufacturer or similar food-flavour environment.
• Must have worked within an organisation that manufactures and supplies food flavourings and seasonings.
• Strong understanding of flavour formulation principles, particularly within sweet or savoury applications.
• Strong sensory and olfactory capabilities.
• Ability to formulate and develop flavour profiles from scratch.
• Ability to troubleshoot formulation and product-development challenges.
• Working knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to food and flavour development.
• Ability to interpret customer briefs and translate them into technical solutions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  

Please note: Candidates whose experience is limited to Quality Control (QC) or Quality Assurance (QA) will not be considered. Direct flavour/product development experience is essential.
