About the position
A well-known and established group requires the above to strategically manage and drive the implementation of the Group's procurement transformation programme at an executive level across multiple participating companies within the group.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Supply Chain Management or Engineering or Business Administration or a related field is essential for the role.
- Professional certification preferred: CIPS, CSCP, CPSM or equivalent will be advantageous as well as an MBA or postgraduate qualification.
- Previous procurement, strategic sourcing or supply chain at a senior management or executive level with demonstrable delivery at scale is essential for the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within or alongside existing internal procurement teams in decentralised organisations.
- Hands-on experience in direct OEM and global sourcing, preferably across electrical, building materials or FMCG categories.
- Prior work experience having worked in Southern Africa is required; deep familiarity with the SADC supplier landscape, import logistics, customs processes and FX exposure is essential.
- Senior stakeholder credibility, with the ability to engage and influence at MD and executive level.
- Background in multi-category procurement across electrical distribution, building materials, agricultural inputs or similar product-heavy distribution businesses.
- Track record of establishing category management, supplier relationship management or procurement centre of excellence structures.
- Must ideally have existing OEM and supplier relationships within Southern Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa or relevant international supply markets (Asia, Europe).
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Strategically managing and driving the implementation of the Group's procurement transformation programme at an executive level across multiple participating companies within the group.
- Translating procurement opportunities into executable workstreams with clear targets, milestones and measurable outcomes.
- Driving adoption of standard procurement disciplines, governance frameworks and performance management practices.
- Developing and implementing sourcing strategies within international countries to strengthen procurement competitiveness and supplier resilience.
- Leading direct sourcing initiatives to reduce dependency on intermediaries and establish direct OEM relationships globally.
- Evaluating supplier markets and sourcing opportunities across Southern Africa and Africa as well as international supply markets.
- Supporting supplier diversification initiatives to improve commercial flexibility and reduce concentration risk.
- Driving category-level sourcing optimisation and procurement maturity.
- Leading complex supplier negotiations using structured, data-driven methodologies.
- Developing negotiation frameworks and building internal capability in strategic negotiation practices.
- Evaluating and driving Supplier Consolidation and Portfolio Rationalisation as well as Demand Aggregation and Cross-Business Collaboration.
- Facilitating alignment between the different companies to create scale advantages and improve purchasing outcomes.
- Driving Capability Building and Change Leadership whilst supporting procurement operating model development and organisational capability uplift.
Salary package, including benefits, is highly negotiable depending on experience gained.
