About the position
A leading glass and aluminium manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Procurement Officer with strong experience in procurement, supplier management, inventory control, and sourcing within the glass, aluminium, manufacturing, or construction industry to join their team in Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the cost-effective procurement of production materials while maintaining supplier relationships, supporting production schedules, and driving procurement efficiencies. This role is suited to a highly organised professional with excellent negotiation and planning skills.
Responsibilities:
- Source and procure aluminium profiles, glass, hardware, sealants, gaskets, accessories, consumables, and other production materials.
- Obtain quotations and negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and supplier agreements.
- Issue purchase orders and ensure the timely delivery of materials.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve procurement-related issues.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while identifying alternative suppliers to reduce procurement risks.
- Monitor inventory levels to prevent stock shortages and overstocking.
- Work closely with production, planning, installation, and stores teams to ensure material availability.
- Coordinate deliveries to meet project deadlines and communicate any supply delays.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Monitor procurement expenditure against budget and analyse purchasing trends.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier documentation, purchase orders, invoices, and delivery notes.
- Prepare procurement reports for management.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and ethical procurement standards.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years' procurement experience, preferably within the glass, aluminium, manufacturing, or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of aluminium systems, glass products, hardware, and related materials.
- Experience sourcing both local and imported products.
- Sound understanding of inventory management and stock control.
- Proven experience negotiating supplier contracts and pricing.
- Excellent negotiation, planning, and organisational skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and procurement/ERP systems.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field.
- CIPS or other procurement qualification will be advantageous.
