About the position
Widney Transport Components is a supplier of specialist commercial vehicle glass and sliding window solutions. The company supplies solutions to the bus and train industry and is the only local accredited sliding window supplier for Toyota, Daimler Chrysler, General Motors, Nissan and Ford.
Main job purpose:
To do or contract out the design, construction, testing and commissioning of capable tools, equipment and processes in order to optimise production flow and reduce losses, including the maintenance of tooling and continuous improvement of tools, equipment and process to maintain competitiveness.
Main Objective:
- To cost and effectively do or contract out the design, construction, testing and commissioning of tools, equipment and processes to meet the demands of the business in line with agreed project plans, specifications and agreed budgets.
- To manage and monitor all tooling preventative maintenance schedules in order to avoid unnecessary breakdowns and minimise downtime of production.
- To investigate, analysis and resolve issues in an effective and timely manner, in order to minimise downtime and avoid the reoccurrence of issues.
- Ensure that all relevant documentation relating to tooling and processes are up-to-date, implemented and adhered to by all production personnel.
- To identify and implement tool, equipment and process improvements on an ongoing basis to reduce costs and improve efficiencies on an ongoing basis.
- To ensure that PFMEA's are completed for all new products by facilitating necessary meetings, improving RPN's and ensuring lessons learn in completing PFMEA's avoid duplications.
- To ensure effective communication of relevant information to all stakeholders to support effective decision making for the business.
- To ensure staff are effectively managed and held accountable through performance and disciplinary procedures, and that staff are developed and mentored through the talent management and IDP processes.
Critical job requirements:
Qualification(s):
- Grade 12
- National Diploma or B Tech in Mechanical Engineering
Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of tool, equipment and process design
- Sound working knowledge of CNC Programming
- Sound working knowledge of FMEA
- Sound working knowledge of Control Plans
- Sound working knowledge of PPAP/APQP/PSW
- Sound working knowledge of SPC
- Sound working knowledge of 3D measurement
