About the position
An engineering company based in Cape Town operating in thewater & wastewater industry is recruiting Process Controllers (Class I to Class V) with wastewater treatment experience. These are6-month or 12-month, fixed term contract positions depending on specific project. Positions will be based in the Western Cape - mostly within the City of Cape Town and Stellenbosch Municipal areas.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Process Controller has the primary responsibility to operate, monitor and control treatment processes at water and/or wastewater treatment facilities in line with the operating procedures, process control philosophy and applicable regulatory requirements.
These rolesinvolve process monitoring, sampling and testing, adjusting process parameters, and maintaining accurate records to ensure consistent, compliant water/effluent quality. Appointment will be made at the Process Controller class (Class I to Class V) commensurate with the applicant's registration, qualifications and experience.
CRITICAL EXPERIENCE:
- Registeredas a Process Controller (Class I - V) with the Department of Water and Sanitation, with hands-on wastewater treatment experience appropriate to the class applied for
- Practical experience in wastewater treatment plant operations (e.g. inlet works, biological/activated sludge processes, clarification, filtration, disinfection and sludge handling) relevant to the class and plant type
- Sound understanding of process monitoring, sampling, dosing and basic process troubleshooting
- Ability to work independently, follow standard operating procedures and, at higher classes, supervise and guide junior process controllers
- The ability to work shifts and stand-by/on-call duties, and handle physically demanding tasks in wastewater treatment environments
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
- Grade 12 / NQF 4 (Matric) or equivalent, with a valid Process Controller Certificate of Competency (Class I - V) issued or recognised by the Department of Water and Sanitation, at the class applied for
- A relevant qualification of NQF 6 or higher will be advantageous

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES/ PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE:
- Knowledge of Wastewater Treatment Processes and Unit Operations
- Knowledge of Process Control, Monitoring and Sampling Procedures
- Knowledge of Relevant Water Quality Standards and Regulatory Compliance Requirements
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant Water Services legislation

Process Operations - 75%
- Operate and monitor treatment plant processes in accordance with the operating procedures and process control philosophy.
Conduct routine sampling, testing and analysis, and adjust process/dosing parameters accordingly.
Monitor plant performance and identify and report process deviations or equipment faults timeously.
Maintain accurate operational, sampling and process control records and logs. - Provide guidance and support to junior/trainee process controllers, where applicable to the class
Executing routine process checks and preparing shift/process control reports - Assist with commissioning, process optimisation and troubleshooting of treatment processes as required

Salary:
- Market related, commensurate with Process Controller class
