Principal Investment Officer - Project Finance
We are seeking an accomplished Principal Investment Officer to lead the origination, structuring, execution, and closing of complex project finance and infrastructure investment transactions. Key Responsibilities:
Transaction Origination & Business Development:
- Identify, originate, and develop a pipeline of infrastructure and development finance opportunities.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with public and private sector stakeholders, sponsors, developers, financial institutions, and development partners.
- Drive business development initiatives to support long-term growth objectives.
Transaction Assessment & Structuring:
- Evaluate investment opportunities through comprehensive commercial, financial, technical, and risk assessments.
- Develop innovative financing structures that enhance project bankability and optimise risk-adjusted returns.
- Lead due diligence processes and collaborate with internal specialists to assess and mitigate transaction risks.
Transaction Execution:
- Lead transactions from origination through to financial close.
- Negotiate term sheets, financing agreements, and key transaction documentation.
- Prepare and present investment recommendations to approval committees and senior decision-makers.
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholders throughout the transaction lifecycle.
Minimum Requirements:
- Postgraduate qualification in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, CA(SA), CFA, MBA, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in project finance, infrastructure finance, structured finance, corporate finance, or development finance.
- Demonstrated experience originating, structuring, negotiating, and closing complex financing transactions.
- Strong financial modelling, credit analysis, and risk assessment capabilities.
- Proven track record in infrastructure investment transactions within South Africa and/or Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Experience engaging with senior stakeholders across public and private sector environments.
- Established professional network within the infrastructure, banking, investment, or development finance sectors.
