The SSC Laboratory at iThemba LABS employs numerous experimental facilities to study nuclear structure and reaction phenomena. Exploration of the project will employ energetic deuteron beams with the AFRODITE++ facility, which employs sensitive detectors. The impact of the beam will be studies prior to test measurements involving the same beams to ensure optimum operation, followed by a full experiment at iThemba LABS. Simulations of deuteron beams will be of benefit for future experiments.
The incumbent may be required to perform certain tasks in areas exposed to ionizing radiation. Therefore, as an occupationally exposed worker, medical clearance by a certified and authorised Occupational Medical Practitioner will be required, and all exposed and potentially exposed employees will be subject to an appropriate radiation and health monitoring programme, in accordance with the provisions of the Radiation Safety Regulations.
