About the position

Objectives:

  • Monitoring and overseeing chemical plant operations. Assisting with startup, shutdown, and operations of facility equipment. Identifying problems that arise and resolving them.
  • Ensuring that safety rules and programs are strictly adhered to.
  • Carrying out site inspections and audits.
  • Performing preventative and maintenance measures.
  • Observing gauges, dials, switches, and alarms, and other indicators to ensure that all machines are working properly.
  • Maintaining a clean, hazard-free work environment.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a matric certificate; relevant tertiary education will strengthen the application.
  • Proficiency in math and technical subjects is preferred, with excellent communication skills in English.
  • Willing to work rotational, 12-hour shifts. (Own transport essential, please confirm in your application that you have a driver's license and own transport)
  • Experience driving forklifts is required.
  • Meeting physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, lifting heavy objects, climbing, crouching, operating tools, and wearing safety gear (PPE's).
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, industrial or similar setting. Able to handle and be exposed to some chemicals (no allergies or skin reactions)
  • An understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Acts (OHSA) and standards.
  • The ability to understand, follow, and apply policies, practices, and operating procedures.
  • A proven ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Computer literate and a good working knowledge of computer programs.
  • Keep up-to-date maintenance of records and data. Attention to detail.
  • Commitment to working in an extremely safety-conscious environment.

Job responsibilities:

  • The Operator is expected to work as an integral part of the production team and will be responsible for retrieving, weighing, testing, and mixing chemical ingredients, monitoring equipment during the chemical process, repairing machinery if problems arise, recording information about equipment and compounds, and assisting in the planning and improvement of processes and products.
  • He will also be expected to comply with all company safety and quality regulations and report any concerns, violations, or accidents, therefore have good understanding of mechanical and chemical processes.
  • The ideal candidate will be attentive, knowledgeable, and have a desire to work with other production team members to develop the best processes and products. Will also work completely on his own during shifts, taking full responsibility for the duties assigned to him.
  • Storing, retrieving, mixing, and monitoring chemicals used in the production process.
  • Doing tests and recording information, such as ingredients, weights, and temperature, and input into the database.
  • Troubleshooting issues with production equipment and processes.
  • Comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing protective gear when necessary.
