About The Employer:
Our Client based in Somerset West is seeking reliable, hardworking and technically minded individuals to join the production team at the site based in Somerset West.
The successful candidates will work in a highly controlled explosives manufacturing environment and will be responsible for operating production machinery, supporting production activities, maintaining housekeeping standards and ensuring that all work is performed safely and in accordance with established procedures.
This position requires individuals who are safety-conscious, disciplined, physically fit and able to work effectively in a team while maintaining high standards of operational excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate production machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform general production duties, including housekeeping and material handling.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions and site-specific requirements.
- Maintain high production and quality standards.
- Adhere strictly to all SHE policies, procedures, rules and legal requirements.
- Conduct routine checks of production equipment and report any faults, abnormalities or safety concerns immediately.
- Assist with the smooth running of the production process and minimise unnecessary downtime.
- Ensure that equipment, work areas and production facilities are kept clean and maintained to the required standards.
- Work collaboratively with Production, Maintenance and SHE teams.
- Complete all required production documentation and records accurately.
- Participate in safety briefings, training and other site-related activities as required.
- Handle production materials responsibly and in accordance with approved procedures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Ability to read, understand and follow detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Strong safety awareness and willingness to comply with strict SHE requirements.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual work in an industrial production environment.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends and overtime when required.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Clear and demonstrable commitment to safe working practices.
- Clear sober habits and the ability to remain fit for duty at all times.
ADVANTAGEOUS QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The following will be considered an advantage:
- Chem Ops / Chemical Operations certification or qualification.
- Chemical Engineering qualification.
- Mechanical Engineering qualification.
- Any other relevant Engineering qualification.
- Proven experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience working in a chemical plant, explosives environment or other industrial production facility.
- Experience operating production machinery or industrial equipment.
- Previous CNC machine operator experience.
- Previous machine operator / plant operator experience.
- Experience working with chemical processes, production systems or industrial equipment.
- Knowledge and practical application of SHE principles in a high-risk environment.
SAFETY AND SITE REQUIREMENTS
Safety is a non-negotiable requirement for this position.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong safety culture and understand the importance of following procedures, wearing the required PPE and immediately reporting unsafe conditions, equipment faults or potential hazards.
Due to the nature of the site and its explosives manufacturing environment, strict adherence to safety procedures and site rules is essential.
Candidates must:
- Maintain a safety-first approach at all times.
- Follow all site safety rules, procedures and work instructions.
- Use PPE correctly and consistently.
- Report hazards, incidents, unsafe acts and equipment defects immediately.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards.
- Be fit for duty and maintain clear sober habits while on site.
- Never bypass or compromise safety procedures to achieve production targets.
- Demonstrate discipline, reliability and accountability.
