PIT SUPERINTENDENT (OPEN-CAST MINING)
?? Location: Middelburg, Mpumalanga

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Pit Superintendent to take full accountability for open-pit mining operations. This is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-performing production across all pit activities.

?? Key Responsibilities
- Lead all open-pit mining operations including drilling, blasting, load & haul, and grading
- Deliver on daily, weekly, and monthly production targets (tonnage, strip ratios, quality)
- Drive operational efficiency and fleet productivity, monitoring key KPIs
- Enforce compliance with the Mine Health & Safety Act (MHSA) and company standards
- Champion a zero-harm safety culture through visible leadership
- Manage and develop large teams including supervisors, foremen, operators, and contractors
- Coordinate with mine planning, geology, engineering, and SHEQ teams
- Oversee equipment utilization, maintenance coordination, and downtime reduction
- Analyse production data, identify inefficiencies, and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Control costs and optimise operational performance within budget
?? What We’re Looking For
- Strong expertise in open-cast mining operations and production management
- Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams in a high-pressure environment
- Solid understanding of mining safety regulations (MHSA) and compliance requirements
- Skilled in data analysis, KPI tracking, and operational reporting
- Hands-on experience with load & haul, drilling, blasting, and pit development
- Familiarity with fleet management systems such as Modular, Jigsaw, or Minstar is advantageous
?? Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering (preferred)
- Mine Overseer Certificate (highly advantageous)
- Blasting Certificate (Surface Mines) (advantageous)
- Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in open-cast mining, including leadership roles
- Valid driver’s licence
