About the position
Our client in the mining sector seeking a highly experienced Payroll Specialist with strong exposure to construction or project-based environments. This role will be responsible for managing complex payroll operations for site-based employees working on demanding project schedules.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Sage Payroll Professional and a deep understanding of South African payroll legislation, including BCEA leave accruals and statutory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end payroll for project-based employees and contractors
- Process payroll on high-volume, time-sensitive cycles (weekly/monthly)
- Interpret and apply construction/project rosters
- Calculate and validate Overtime, shift allowances, and site-based earnings, BCEA leave accruals
- Ensure compliance with SARS requirements
- Manage payroll audits, reconciliations, and reporting
- Maintain accurate employee records and payroll controls
- Liaise with finance, HR, and project teams on payroll queries
- Support contractor onboarding and payroll setup
Minimum Requirements:
- Financial or payroll-related qualification
- Proven experience in payroll within construction, mining, or project environments
- Advanced experience using Sage Payroll Professional (non-negotiable)
- Strong knowledge of South African payroll legislation and compliance
- Experience working with Site-based employees, Complex timesheets and project calendars
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Exposure to large-scale projects (EPCM / mining / infrastructure)
