About the position

Position:
Payroll Administrator

Based in:
Isando

Reporting to:
Human Resources

Position Overview / Summary

The Payroll Administrator is responsible for the accurate processing of the full payroll function, ensuring employees are remunerated correctly and on time, and that the payroll database and employee files are accurately maintained and updated (±600 employees).

Job Description (Role Responsibilities and Key Activities)

  • Ensure that all payroll functions are performed accurately and within required deadlines.

  • Communicate effectively and timeously with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve payroll queries.

  • Liaise with the Payroll Compliance & Quality Control Officer regarding any quality concerns, suggestions, or improvements.

Core Payroll Processing Functions:

Perform payroll processing using VIP Premier Payroll software.

Accurately capture payroll input, including:

New employee onboarding

Salary increases

Earnings

Deductions

Contributions

Perks and benefits

Terminations

Capture payroll input using batch functionality.

Reconcile payroll prior to finalisation.

Generate ACB exports.

Generate General Ledger exports.

Submit UIF declarations.

Perform payroll backups.

Execute start-of-period procedures.

Attend to administrative duties (e.g. filing).

Manage and resolve general payroll queries.

Legislative & Compliance Knowledge Required:

  • Application and definition of PAYE, SDL, and OID.

  • Completion and submission of EMP201 returns.

  • Employee benefits administration.

  • Understanding of the taxability of earnings.

  • Understanding of the tax-deductibility of deductions.

  • Basic knowledge of BCEA.

  • Medical aid fringe benefit calculations.

  • Access control administration.

  • Creation of earning definitions within the payroll system.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric, with a recognised HR and Payroll tertiary qualification, or relevant HR and Payroll experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Payroll Administration on VIP Premier Payroll.

  • Sound understanding of applicable labour legislation (BCEA).

  • Advanced computer literacy (MS Office Suite).

  • Proficient in VIP Premier Payroll.
