About the position
We are seeking a Patch & Endpoint Management Specialist to take ownership of server and endpoint patching, application deployment, and compliance management. While endpoint devices are currently managed by the desktop team, there is a critical need for a dedicated role focused on patch management to reduce security vulnerabilities, ensure compliance, and improve performance across IT infrastructure. This role is key to safeguarding systems, streamlining deployments, and ensuring a secure and resilient environment.
Key Responsibilities
Patch Management
- Monitor, test, approve, and deploy OS and third-party patches across endpoint devices (Windows).
- Ensure timely rollout of security updates and zero-day patches.
- Manage patch schedules to minimize business disruption.
- Roll back and troubleshoot failed patch deployments.
Software Deployment
- Package, test, and deploy enterprise applications via tools like Endpoint Central, SCCM, or Intune.
- Build and maintain system images for efficient deployment.
- Coordinate zero-touch provisioning with vendors (e.g., Dell).
- Ensure compliance with software licensing and deployment processes.
Compliance & Reporting
- Generate and analyze patch compliance reports.
- Maintain detailed audit logs of patch and deployment activities.
- Support compliance efforts aligned with security standards (e.g., ISO 27001).
Endpoint Management
- Support both remote and on-premises devices via endpoint management platforms.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to remediate vulnerabilities.
- Maintain documentation of patching processes, configurations, and SOPs.
Testing & Validation
- Conduct pre-deployment patch and application testing.
- Identify and resolve compatibility or conflict issues prior to rollout.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in patch management and software deployment in mid-to-large IT environments.
- Hands-on expertise with tools such as ManageEngine Endpoint Central, SCCM, Intune, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems
- Third-party applications (e.g., browsers, Java, Adobe)
- Security patch cycles and vulnerability management
- Experience with remote device management and cloud-based endpoint tools.
- Basic scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash) a plus.
- Strong documentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 plus a Degree/Diploma in IT or Computer Science (NQF Level 6).
- CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent).
- Microsoft certifications such as:
- Windows Server Fundamentals
- Modern Desktop Administrator
- Endpoint Administrator Associate
- ManageEngine Endpoint Central Certification.
- ITIL Foundation certification preferred.
