About the position

Packaging Manager

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Packaging Manager to oversee packaging operations, supplier engagement, and packaging development within a dynamic agricultural or fresh produce environment. This role is central to ensuring packaging availability, operational alignment, cost control, and continuous improvement across the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

Packaging Planning & Inventory Control

  • Develop and manage seasonal packaging plans aligned with production cycles and demand forecasts
  • Monitor and control packaging stock levels to ensure continuity of supply
  • Coordinate packaging requirements for brand updates and product launches

Packhouse & Operational Alignment

  • Act as the primary packaging contact for packhouses
  • Ensure packaging specifications are understood and consistently applied
  • Conduct regular site visits to support operations and resolve packaging-related issues

Supplier & Cost Management

  • Manage relationships with packaging suppliers, including performance reviews and compliance checks
  • Negotiate pricing, manage supplier agreements, and ensure required accreditations are maintained
  • Support cost analysis initiatives and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements

Projects, Risk & New Product Support

  • Contribute to cross-functional projects involving packaging changes or improvements
  • Identify and manage packaging supply risks
  • Support packaging requirements for new product development in collaboration with internal teams

Operational Planning & Process Improvement

  • Create and maintain seasonal packaging calendars
  • Review service levels and drive continuous improvement in packaging processes
  • Implement best practices to enhance operational effectiveness

Reporting & Documentation Management

  • Maintain accurate packaging stock data and reporting
  • Contribute to monthly operational and strategic reports
  • Manage a central digital library for packaging specifications and documentation, ensuring version control

Innovation & Development

  • Contribute to packaging innovation and sustainability initiatives
  • Take ownership of selected NPD packaging projects within the role progression

Personal Development

  • Participate actively in performance reviews, training, and professional development initiatives

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in a relevant field

Experience & Skills

  • 5-8 years' experience in packaging roles within agriculture or fresh produce
  • Strong experience in inventory management and supplier relationship management
  • Background in packaging planning, development, or design is advantageous
  • Exposure to cost analysis and project management is beneficial
  • Knowledge of compliance standards, sustainability practices, and fresh produce packaging materials
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under pressure
