About the position
A leading renewable energy company is looking for an experienced Operations Manager with strong experience in end-to-end service delivery, operational management, budget control, process improvement, team leadership, and safety compliance to join their team in Brooklyn, Pretoria. The successful candidate will oversee daily operations from installation through to aftercare, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role will act as a key link between field teams and senior leadership while driving operational efficiency, resolving challenges, and removing roadblocks across the business.
Responsibilities:
- Own and manage the operational budget (OPEX) while protecting profit margins.
- Monitor operational spending and identify practical opportunities to reduce fuel and operational costs without compromising quality.
- Approve purchases within established authority limits and ensure all expenditure is necessary and policy-compliant.
- Ensure all operational sites and vehicles comply with applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and legal requirements.
- Lead safety training initiatives and enforce safety protocols across installation activities and driver behaviour.
- Investigate safety incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Apply Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies to reduce waste and streamline operational workflows.
- Improve route planning and fleet utilisation to reduce delays and improve operational efficiency.
- Set and manage quarterly operational goals and ensure targets are achieved.
- Oversee maintenance contractors to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and operational.
- Coordinate equipment, vehicles, staff, and other shared resources across departments to maximise efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, and manage direct reports, including recruitment, performance management, and performance reviews.
- Remove operational obstacles and provide the support required for teams to perform effectively.
- Ensure effective communication between installation crews, aftercare teams, and support staff.
- Work closely with Sales, Marketing, and Finance to ensure operational delivery aligns with customer expectations and business commitments.
- Act as a key point of contact for resolving operational challenges that span multiple departments.
Requirements:
- Post-matric qualification in a relevant field is preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in operations management.
- At least 5 years' experience in a senior leadership or management role.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is advantageous, or willingness to obtain certification within 12 months.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen with experience managing operational budgets and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Solid knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Strong experience in operational planning, process improvement, and workflow optimisation.
- Experience with data analysis, route planning, fleet utilisation, and process mapping.
- Proven people leadership experience with the ability to build, mentor, and hold teams accountable.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to remain hands-on and resolve day-to-day operational challenges.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Decisive, resilient, and able to perform effectively in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
