About the position
A leading artisanal food manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Operations Manager with strong experience in food production, factory operations, and process improvement, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in Xhosa, to join their team in Woodstock, Cape Town. This role will oversee end-to-end production within a small-scale, high-quality manufacturing environment, focusing on efficiency, quality control, and continuous improvement across both factory and limited retail operations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily production planning and facilitate team meetings
- Monitor and optimise production output and efficiency
- Improve production systems, factory layout, and workflow processes
- Develop and manage quality control and food safety systems
- Reduce wastage and improve operational efficiency
- Oversee weekly and monthly stock counts
- Coordinate with procurement and supply chain on raw materials and packaging
- Supervise equipment maintenance and general factory upkeep
- Compile monthly production and performance reports
- Track and monitor operational improvements
- Provide operational support to retail sites (approximately 1 day per week), including maintenance oversight
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment
- Strong experience in production and operations management
- Knowledge of food safety and quality control systems
- Proficiency in modern stock/ERP or quantity surveying (QS) systems
- Ability to communicate effectively in Xhosa (essential)
- Strong organisational and process improvement skills
- Own transport preferred
