Operations Manager
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the Management of all Operations (Projects/Production/Plant & Equipment. Project Planning
Reporting Structure
The Operations Manager will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Direct Reports-Project Managers/Production Manager/Planner/Plant & Equipment Superintendent
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
· Effective management of Construction Projects to achieve targeted margins, on time and to client satisfaction.
· Effective management of Production workshop to achieve production targets.
· Effective management of Plant & Equipment Department to ensure a high level of equipment availability.
· Assisting in Business Development (Client Meetings/Presentations etc)
Input / Actions required.
1.Management
-Management of Plant and Equipment Department via the Plant and Equipment Superintendent.
-Management of multiple Construction Projects ($0.5m to $20m) via Project Managers.
-Management of Structural steel production workshop via the Production Manager.
2.Overall Management of Projects (Ensuring via the respective Project Managers)
· Project Set Up:
o Selection of the Project Team.
o Receive debrief and hand over from the Proposals Department.
o Assist with the generation of the Project Cost Control Sheet
o Establish the following documents: -
§ Project Execution Plan
§ Baseline Schedule
§ IMS Plan (or Quality and HSE Plans depending on client requirements);
o Advise the HR Department of key personnel requirements and follow up with HR Requisitions.
o Set-up site establishment.
o Establish weekly and monthly reports.
· Project Execution
o Establish and requisition labour, plant, material, and subcontractor requirements.
o Ensure that the project team and all subcontractors fully comply with the requirements of the IMS Plan (or Quality and HSE Plans depending on client requirements);
o Maintain and analyse the Cost Control Sheet
o Generate and submit valuations and sales invoices to the client.
o Ensure that payment is received in a timely manner for all work completed.
o Ensure that change management procedures are implemented and followed.
o Coordinate and direct commercial matters in order to maximize profit on the project.
o Prepare and issue weekly and monthly reports to the client and regional management.
· Project Close-Out
o Finalize as-built dossier and issue to the client.
o Communicate demobilization of the project team, as necessary, to facilitate possible reassignment.
o Issue completion/handover certificates.
o Issue formal notice of commencement of warranty period.
o Prepare and submit final account.
o Claim retention.
o Issue final package of drawings and documentation to the client.
o Hold project debrief meetings with project team and client.
o Provide supplier/subcontractor appraisal.
o Complete project completion checklist.
3.Overall Management of Production Workshop (Ensuring via Production Manager)
- Production Targets are met
- Quality standards are achieved
- Costs are in line with allowable/budget
Skills & Competencies Required
Educational & Professional Qualification:
Diploma in Engineering
Minimum of 15 years’ experience at a Senior level (Operations Manager/Snr Project Manager/Production Manager) in the Mining Industry managing Construction Projects.
Technical Skills Required:
Good excel skills.
Knowledge of MS Project would be an added advantage.
