Operations Controller - Perishable Export

About the position

Our client is looking for an Operations Controller to join their team in Durban, KZN. This is a newly created role due to business expansion. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day operations, liaise with stakeholders, and occasionally assist with stock deliveries. The role requires immediate availability and includes a two-week training period in Cape Town upon joining.

Responsibilities:

• Manage operational tasks including tracking container numbers, GEO numbers, and temperature monitoring.
  
  
• Conduct analysis and sanity checks for Port, Depot, and PPECB Monitoring.
  
  
• Handle dispute resolutions internally and externally.
  
  
• Retrieve and manage temperature download data from supplier websites.
  
  
• Monitor and respond to email alert notifications.
  
  
• Assist with stock management, including distribution, deliveries to cold stores, and updating stock sheets.
  
  
• Prepare acknowledgment letters and arrange courier/deliveries as needed.
  
  
• Perform weekend duty rotations for all operations.
  
  

Requirements:

• Grade 12 qualification (Essential).
  
  
• Diploma in Shipping, Clearing and Freight Forwarding, Distribution and Logistics Business Management, or related field (Essential).
  
  
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Freight Forwarding and Logistics, particularly with perishables (export-related).
  
  
• Valid driver's license (Essential).
  
  
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  
  
• Proficiency in MS Office.
  
  
• Ability to work under pressure and attention to detail.
  
  
• Willingness to work additional hours when required.
  
  
• Must be available to travel to Cape Town for the first two weeks of employment for training.
