About the position
A specialist surgical environment in Durban is seeking an Operational Clinical Nurse Specialist to support theatre operations, provide advanced clinical guidance, and uphold best practice standards in perioperative nursing care.
Requirements:
- Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse (NQF 7 qualification required)
- Post-basic qualification in Operating Room Nursing (essential)
- Minimum 3-5 years' recent theatre experience, with strong exposure to scrub and circulating procedures
- In-depth knowledge of perioperative nursing standards, infection prevention protocols, and theatre safety regulations
- Proven competence in clinical decision-making, problem-solving, and managing complex theatre cases
- Strong understanding of surgical instrumentation, theatre workflows, equipment management, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to guide, mentor and support theatre staff in clinical best practice
- Sound understanding of quality assurance, auditing processes, risk management and clinical governance within the theatre environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to function independently and maintain high standards of clinical practice under pressure
